Breaking Barriers: Empowering Minds During National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

Hannah Bonoyer BSN, RN, PMH-C

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a critical time to spotlight the unique challenges faced by minority communities in accessing high-quality mental health care. In Rhode Island, our vibrant tapestry of diversity enriches our communities profoundly. However, it's essential to recognize and address the disparities that underserved groups face in accessing quality mental health care and support. According to recent statistics, Black and brown women are less likely to receive mental health treatment despite experiencing comparable rates of mental health disorders. This slideshow highlights these disparities while offering insights into national and local resources available to support individuals in Rhode Island. By raising awareness and sharing resources, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for mental health care.
